Brooke Is Going to School!!

We had Brooke's First IEP yesterday.  IEP stands for Independent Education Plan - at least I think that is what it means.  We worked through the Eureka School District, since we live in Granite Bay.  The district does not have a classroom that can meet Brooke's needs, so we are going to a county program in Roseville.  We have toured the classroom and met with the teacher and are very excited to send Brooke there.  She'll start going to school right after her 3rd birthday. Hard to believe!!  The school district, via the county program, will take over Brooke's therapeutic intervention at this time.  We are so pleased with how things went.  The IEP Team was communicative and proactive from the start of the process back in October.  The meeting was LONG!  We started at 1pm and ended at 4:30.  But...we walked out of there with everything Brooke needs.  She will have 2 hours of PT a week.  One hour with her current PT in the classroom and one hour in the water at Easter Seals with the same PT.  She'll also get 2 sessions a week of 45 minutes of OT.  One will focus on feeding and self-care.  Brooke will have 2 sessions, 30 minutes each, of speech therapy a week.  She will also have 60 minutes a week of collaborative vision services with a teacher of the visually impaired.
Wow!  I could not have hoped for anything better.
So...come March 15th of this year, Baby Brooke will be attending Catherine Gates Elementary School in their preschool classroom for special needs kids.  We'll be sending her 4 days a week and amending based on what she can tolerate.
Most of Brooke's current therapists were there to support her and communicate her needs to the IEP team from the district.  How fortunate we have been to find such wonderful people to support Brooke's development.
